I was fully prepared to be disappointed when I purchased the Greenworks Electric Chipper. I expected another cheap Chinese-made piece of junk. What I got was cheap, made in China and plastic, but it actually works!

This chipper handles any branch I can force through the narrow opening and since I removed the black disks in the discharge chute, has not jammed once, even on leafy material. The narrow opening is the biggest headache when using this machine. Chipping broomsticks would be effortless, but most branches are not perfectly straight and require some persuasion to fit through the opening.

The collection bag is flimsy and will not fill completely because of its shape.

The supplied paddle to feed material into the hopper is almost useless. I use a scrap piece of 1/2 x 2.

After approx. 5 hours of use, my chipper refused to run more than 10 seconds without seizing. A quick inspection revealed nothing obvious so I figured I would test Greenworks impressive 4 year warranty.

I contacted Greenworks customer service and they gave me the name of my local authorized service center, Flohr Electric in Omaha. I told my service center what I experienced, that I suspected it was a bad bearing, and left the chipper behind. Three weeks later I was instructed by my service center to return the chipper to Amazon for replacement as it was too expensive to repair. By now it was well past Amazon's 30 day return window and Amazon no longer had any chippers available to replace mine, so Amazon offered to pay for the repairs. This was the moment I knew I was screwed, but I played along anyway.

I went back to Flohr Electric to ask for a repair estimate. Their response: "I don't have any idea what's wrong with it." They refused to give me an estimate unless I paid them to diagnose the problem saying they will leave it to me to fight with Greenworks for reimbursement. I left.

Then I contacted Amazon customer service again, informing them the repairs will cost more than a new chipper, and asked if they were still willing to pay for the repairs. Amazon generously made an exception to their return policy and allowed me to return the chipper for a full refund. Thank you Amazon!

However, I elected to keep the chipper and repair it myself. Two hours and $8.36 later I'm chipping again. The only regret I have is wasting my time with the irresponsible twits at Greenworks and the incompetent twits at my Greenworks Authorized Service Center.

The chipper came three days after order. Assembly was done within 30 minutes. It would be helpful if the instruction keep the part numbers consistent.

The blades are attached to a wheel. The wheel is attached to the motor with a screw in the center. This means the screw will become loose as the wheel meets resistance - such as cutting wood. Within two hours of operation, the wheel assembly came apart and the blades were cracked. The screws holding the blades were also cracked.

I was very disappointed and had to return the item.

The Greenworks 24052 15 amp Electric Chipper was very easy to assemble and took less than ten minutes. Instructions are clear and easy to follow. After reading reviews for other chippers I was concerned that the process would be slow and very limited on the variety of materials the chipper would work on...for example the manufacturer very clearly states that it will NOT work on leaves (definitely a drawback). Much to my delight it made quick work on oak, pear, crepe Myrtle trimmings, as long as they were under the 15/8 size limit. I also tried bamboo, ( dry and with leaves) and it ate it right up, I even tried to shred up a rotten gourd ( which I don' t recommend ) and it did an adequate job. Overall a great value for typical homeowner use.
